Weekend rally: at the world's end in Komarovka

On the first day of spring the Weekend Rally team went to a boarding school in Komarovka.

 

It has been a thorough preparation to the visit: we have bought panties for the boys, t-shirts for the girls, as well as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, fruit and sweets.

There are 145 children in the boarding school in Komarovka. Not all of them are really orphans. Parents of many of them are alive, but on account of some circumstances they can't live at home. Many of the parents are just poor and disabled; every life is unique and full of trials and hardships.

We should note that the school has changed for the better since our last visit a year ago. New windows are installed instead of the old wooden ones, the heating system works as it should; some new beds are already installed. A major overhaul has already begun.

We arrived at 10:45 and got to work immediately. Neither the children, nor the adults were bored.

The youngest were making picture post cards to the women's day, both girls and boys. Soon white pieces of paper were colorfully painted. Interesting but the boys were even more diligent than the girls, as they were likely to present the card to their teacher, granny, or maybe their mother. One boy wrote a poem addressed to his mother on his card. A thought of importance of a mother to any child flashed across my mind...

 

In the classroom next door the children were listening to a fairytale about Cinderella, and afterwards they were paining the story: here was Cinderella dressed in the old clothes is cleaning the house, and here she was shining at the masquerade ball. If only in real life all could be this way, but... maybe it's not too late yet.

 

The work in the school's gym is in full swing - the girls are learning a dance to perform during the festive dinner. It's hard to get it all right at once, but everyone is doing their best despite of the difficulties.

 

 

One has to work for a while to achieve the results. The school's sports team is preparing for the Euro 2012 Championship: the match between Kiev and Komarovka was going on. The friendship was won :)

 

 

 

The main hall is full of activity, everybody is trying on the clothes we have brought. The clothes are already assigned by Natasha Rodionova: she sorted out all 82 sets.

The dining room is being changed too: balloons and the paintings are everywhere.

The work in the kitchen needs to be done as well: two boxes of bananas and two boxes of oranges need to be washed and pealed, cookies and sweets need to be sorted. And the main course is 12 big fancy cakes made in the Brovary bakery. The impression is great!

But our dance band is still in expectation of the performance.

 

Music begins playing and the girls we saw so confused during the training looked confident and they danced great!

 

We had to go home, so, overwhelmed with emotions, we set off on our journey back.

 

Some boys went to see us off. Nobody wanted to leave... Eugene, who is 5 years old, promised us to buy a car when he grows up. He has two brothers here in the school - in any way, he is not alone.
