Children’s boarding school # 1 in Verkhniodniprovs’k

It was established on the 10th of October in 1949 in the town Verkhniodniprovs’k by order of the Ministry of Social Security URSR as holiday center for the disabled war veterans.

Starting from the 3rd of December 1949 it was renamed to the children’s boarding school.

In May 1997 children’s boarding school was relocated to the village Mushurin Rih, to the base of the former children’s camp, where all necessary conditions, natural ones as well, are created, as it is situated in the ecologically clean place on the pine island.

135 persons work at our school. Teaching staff is not very large (6 teachers), because the children of our category are considered not to be capable for learning. But we do have our achievements: some of the disabled children may not perfectly, but mastered the principles of reading, writing, modeling and drawing. They gladly do physical exercises in the open air and dance at the discotheque. And our most pride is the children’s drama theater “Kapitoshka”. It appeared not long ago, but already has in its usual vein 4 fairy-tales plays. Believe, only few well-known actor staffs have such grateful audience, as our theater has.

Hundred-per-cent financing from the regional budget allows providing our boys with bedclothes, clothes and shoes, five meals a day, good medical care, possibility of physical and moral rehabilitation.

The institution is subordinated to the Chief Department of Personnel Management and Social Security. The inmates are boys and young men, aged from 5 to 25, with hard mental deficiency and psychosis.

According to the resolution of the medical and teaching committee, all inmates need outside supervision and intensified medical care. Among them are 26 children with convulsive syndromes, 6 boys suffer from Down’s syndrome, 24 men have the consequences of cerebral spastic infantile paralysis, 28 boys suffer from cardiovascular diseases. Number of inmates, their age and sex: Here live 120 children, among them are 2 orphans, 10 of them are напівсиріт, 44 children are deprived of parental care. The boys are aged from 5 to 25.

• roof substitution of the buildings
• building of the closed passage between the sleeping complex and the dining room (needed for the disabled children, who experience difficulties in moving in the street)
• covering for the courtyard (now it is covered with the old slabs and it is hard for children to move)
• repair of the old building (possibly creating of the rehabilitation center for improvement of our children’s health and health of children from other institutions
